Worker bees do not mate

After a hard days work, a forager bee may have flown up to 5-10 miles to collect pollen and nectar for the hive.

How long do bees live?

All worker bees are female and do not reproduce, they live for 4-9 months during the winter months and only 6 weeks         in the summer months – hence the term “Work yourself to death”.

How many bees live in a hive?

A hive consists of 20,000-30,000 worker bees in the winter and 60,000-80,000 worker bees in the summer, there             are 300-3000 drone bees in the hive.

How do bees survive in the winter?

The honey bee hive is perennial and although it is quite inactive in the winter and they survive by clustering together           for warmth.

How do bees communicate?  "The Honeybee Dance"

Honey Bees communicate with each other, give directions and distance to flowers by dancing

The expression “Busy as a Bee” was for a reason, there is always jobs and tasks being performed in the hive at any       given time, for example; housekeepers, nursemaids, construction workers, grocers, undertakers, guards, dancers, egg         layers, groomers etc…These tasks being performed hundreds of times each day.
